Not the only maskers in the village!

Summer in Snowdonia with fellow covid conscious friends๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ’œ  Fishing (cooking catch by the lake), wild swimming, gorge walking, sling shot (ing?), music making, bush crafting, camping by an open fire and a sky full of stars. Outdoor life is good for body, mind & soul. Added bonus not being the only maskers in the village. Love Wales ๐Ÿ’•

Ode to Laura

My beautiful baby sister died. I wrote an ode to Laura & recorded the first & only draft, in one go. No editing or finessing. Unpolished as it is, it captures the rawness of my grief. If we harden our hearts to loss of life & anesthetise our pain, we lose what it is to be human. The poem says it all๐Ÿ’”

Ode to Laura๐Ÿ’“

"Tell Laura I love her" (Ricky Valance). Dad always loved this song from the 60's & the name, which years later was chosen for his & my mam's last born๐Ÿ’œ

Yet more evidence that SARS-CoV-2 causes brain damage. News anchor: "Is it permanent"? Neuroscientist: "Quite permanent"

See bio-risk analyst Conor Brown's assessment of the implications of this & other evidence of neurological post covid sequelae๐Ÿ‘‡

Conor is a must follow trusted source on science twitter๐Ÿง๐Ÿ™

To see the video embedded click on the link, then click on the second link that pops up๐Ÿ‘ Blogs, eh!

1/No doubt many of you will have seen this video before (a huge h/t to @1goodtern for tweeting it).

Two points: First, I have said on this platform before how one of the defining, and most chilling moments of the pandemic for me thus far was when I...
2/... heard for the first time that anosmia was a cardinal symptom of infection; I knew then the disease had a neurological component, and that there would undoubtedly be neurological sequelae of infection.

Second, this would be bad enough if people only got infected once -
3/ in the manner of the wishfully thinking original proponents of 'herd immunity' - but, of course, re-infection is the norm.

So, to be clear, we are allowing a virus that likely causes permanent neurological sequelae in some people it infects essentially unlimited chances...
4/... to do so.

As such, I genuinely believe that there is a set number of infections that essentially no adult can take without suffering permanent neurological damage. We should probably stop before we find out what that number is /end

Must watch: Tasmania MP Cassy O'Connor's masterclass in forensic questioning: "Do you think it is responsible to allow the continued infection & reinfection of children with a novel coronavirus that is vascular, that causes long term sequelae, brain damage, including in childhood diabetes, along with a whole range of sequelae"?

Tasmania MP, Cassy O'Connor, showing politicians & journalist around the world how it's done. Her masterclass in forensic questioning of Tasmania Premier, Jeremy Rockliff,  is a must watch ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ™

"Do you think it is satisfactory, do you think it is responsible to allow the continued infection & reinfection of children with a novel coronavirus that is vascular, that causes long term sequelae, brain damage, including in childhood diabetes, along with a whole range of sequelae"

‘How can you not confirm Covid is airborne (refuse to), and tell people to wash their hands and take personal responsibility?’

Response ‘ well there is an area for personal responsibility’

@CassyOConnorMP ‘it used to be called Public health’ ๐ŸŽฏ

You ignore their advice.’

"‘You know Covid is not just a respiratory virus don’t you? It’s a killer illness, it gets into every organ in the body"

He has no words. Just squirming body language. Looking left & right for rescue team. There was never any evidence. They just gave up & sacrificed public health, our health, at the alter of capitalism

Where is the forensic questioning of Irish TDs from Irish opposition TDs & journalists? I'm drowning in research & evidence. Happy to share

7) Our children are at grave risk of Covid as State puts profit ahead of public health

The point of journalism is to hold power to account by: documenting what politicians and experts say, highlighting and questioning when what they claim appears uncorroborated by evidence and putting what they say on the public record so that, as more evidence emerges that they misled/misinformed the public, policy is adjusted accordingly & they're held to account.

There's absolutely no evidence or moral justification for repeatedly infecting our children & school staff with a vascular, multi-organ damaging, disabling, deadly SAR-C0V-2 pathogen. There is however, ample evidence that we have been misled & misinformed as to the significance & extent of child & school transmission. & harm.

Please do what you can to demand clean air in schools๐Ÿ™

This from August 2022: Our children are at grave risk of Covid as State puts profit ahead of public health

Excerpts

."..we’re returning children to school against a backdrop of a data blackout, a more contagious variant incoming, waning and pummelled immunity from repeated infections, with no protections in place".

"It’s up to parents to risk-assess, but if we’re not allowed to know if the unmasked kid sitting next to ours who was off sick for a few days has Covid and is potentially still infectious, how can we? Nits we need to be informed of, but a highly infectious neurotropic disease that can cause organ damage, disability and death? That’s an ecumenical matter".

"Many parents, sometimes emboldened by mental-health practitioners who should know better, interpret the Government’s removal of public health protections as being outside their locus of control and therefore, succumbing to the “inevitability” of infection is best. For many, due to financial or health precarity, exposure to Covid is increasingly difficult to avoid but an infection is not beneficial to mental health because; a) psychiatric disorders are common post-Covid sequelae, the risk of which increases with every infection and b) mental and physical health are inextricably linked.

Pitting one against the other, instead of advocating for both, is harmful. The World Health Organisation’s Mike Ryan recently spoke of the cumulative impact of repeated infections and negative long-term neurological and other health outcomes".

"Unless parents are prepared to say, “we don’t consent to exposing our children to Covid infection at school”, our consent will be presumed tacit".

"Dr Hans Kluge, the WHO’s Europe director, recently urged countries such as Ireland to “relaunch mitigation efforts”, and adopt a vaccine-plus strategy. He warned: “Waiting for the autumn to act will be too late.”

"The Children’s Rights Alliance told me it backs WHO Covid protections in schools".

Children’s rights lawyer, Gareth Noble, said: "We significantly reduce risk for our children if we follow basic public health advice such as masking, contact tracing, air filtration. Any expert advice from the WHO needs to be considered and actioned. Ignoring it would be negligent.”

Interim chief medical officer Professor Breda Smyth needs to explain why she has not adopted WHO guidance in her advice to government.

6) Expert advice on reopening schools defies rights and puts children at risk

This from January 2022: https://www.independent.ie/opinion/comment/expert-advice-on-reopening-schools-defies-rights-and-puts-children-at-risk/41219699.html

"Justifying giving schools the go-ahead to reopen, Dr Holohan tweeted: “The Irish and international experience of the pandemic continues to give us reason to believe that schools are a lower-risk environment for the transmission of Covid-19.

Wrong. The WHO and ECDC agree that risk in schools is only lowered with ventilation, masks, contact tracing, testing and low community transmission. Dr Holohan has doggedly resisted these scientifically proven school protections".

"Instead, Ireland is reopening the most overcrowded schools in Europe with the highest infection rates in the EU (which could be 80,000 cases a day) with hand-sanitiser and open windows as our children’s primary defence against the highly infectious Omicron.

The rest of Dr Holohan’s tweet read: “The majority of children who are infected experience a mild form of this disease.”

It’s deeply concerning that the man responsible for the country’s public health advice is apparently normalising the mass infection of children, which for some may not be mild and could result in hospitalisation, long Covid and possibly death".

"The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) states that the best interests of the child must be a primary consideration in all actions concerning children (Article 3) and that all the rights guaranteed by the UNCRC must be available to all children without discrimination (Article 2).

Enshrined within the convention is the right to access education, safety, health and life. Ms Foley’s failure to provide airborne mitigations disproportionately impacts disabled and immunocompromised children (or children within immunocompromised families), denying them the right to safely access education.

"Every child has a right to be educated in a safe environment".

"We have solutions, but they’re not being implemented.”

5) Lure of lobbyists and Martin’s failure to follow science puts nation’s health at risk

This article from October 2021:

https://www.independent.ie/opinion/comment/lure-of-lobbyists-and-martins-failure-to-follow-science-puts-nations-health-at-risk/40991353.html

Excerpts

"A recent study in the Lancet found countries that followed scientific advice to suppress the pandemic fared best on measures of health, wealth and civil liberties. Ireland’s adoption of the UK’s Living with Covid (survival of the fittest) non-strategy is the antithesis of science and doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.

"Last week, Nphet’s modelling lead, Professor Philip Nolan, claimed: “All international evidence says children transmit much less than adults.” What evidence? The international scientific evidence, endorsed by the WHO and the ECDC, is incontrovertible: Children both catch and transmit Covid, and even asymptomatic children may develop long Covid."

"This month, the JAMA published research on the role of primary school children in the transmission of Covid and found that, where mitigations weren’t in place, not only did they spread the virus more efficiently than adults, but they are the main drivers in the pandemic. Most transmission occurred between teachers and children within school, with spillover into their households"

"Nphet’s denial of the international evidence led to flawed school guidance, which served to fuel the flames of rising cases".

"The Government has form regarding science denial. Last December, it dismissed the Independent Scientific Advisory Group’s (Isag) and Nphet’s warnings against easing restrictions as the voices of industry prevailed. Within weeks, Ireland ranked worst in the world as Covid incidence and deaths rocketed. School closures and lockdown ensued...."

"Covid is an airborne disease, so why wasn’t the reopening of indoor venues contingent on installing HEPA filtration and visible CO2 monitors"?

"Nphet’s expert advisory group on ventilation made recommendations for safe indoor air standards in February that weren’t adopted by the Government".

"Why have these inexpensive safeguards not been implemented? Living with Covid means accepting around 2,000 people a year will die from a preventable disease (compared to 150 road deaths deemed unacceptable), that children will become infected and potentially suffer multi-organ failure, that our vulnerable will be at risk indefinitely and our beleaguered health service, followed by the economy, will collapse.

That’s not science, that’s really bad politics, and the Irish public did not consent to that"

4) One day our children will ask what we did to prevent them being exposed to Covid

 This from September 2021: https://www.independent.ie/opinion/comment/one-day-our-children-will-ask-what-we-did-to-prevent-them-being-exposed-to-covid/40820869.html

Excerpts

"In July, the ECDC warned, “It’s well established that children can be infected by and transmit SARS-CoV-2...Variants of concern show increased transmissibility, it’s therefore important to note that both susceptibility and infectiousness of children aged one to six are substantially higher compared with previous variants”

Nphet's role in downplaying the risks posed by Covid to children will be an enduring, shameful legacy".

"Over the first three waves of the pandemic a total of 300 Irish children were admitted to hospital and the HPSC reported that 72pc of children admitted to ICU did not have underlying conditions. As of August 30, there were zero paediatric ICU beds available in Ireland.

With no margin of error, our Government and Nphet still shun the precautionary principle".

"According to architect Orla Hegarty, good masks and HEPA filtration can cut indoor risks by 90pc. They cost roughly €10 per child, and I’m struggling to understand Norma Foley’s refusal to do this unless the plan is to achieve population immunity through mass infection of children. The World Health Organisation’s Mike Ryan decried that as “moral emptiness and epidemiological stupidity”...

"The WHO and Unicef have called for robust mitigations to ensure school safety, including masks, ventilation, distancing and effective track, trace and isolate. None of these exist in Irish primary schools. Public health and safety is the Government’s responsibility".

"If the Government continues to expose our children to harm, it’s our job to protect them. Unless parents are prepared to say, “We do not consent to exposing our children to Covid infection at school which could saddle them with long-term disability, congenital disorders, organ failure and cognitive deficiency”, our consent will be presumed tacit.

One day, our children will ask what we did to prevent them being exposed to infection when masks and inexpensive HEPA filtration systems could have prevented them from getting sick.

Sending our under-12s to school with masks or chipping in for air filters are viable options. Deferential acquiescence is not".

3) We have committed to wrong course of action on schools – it’s time for a rethink

This article from October 2020 documents the predicted shambolic failure of a school re-opening "plan" that ignored evidence that children catch and spread SARS2 and that unmitigated spread in schools leads to community outbreaks. I set out the WHO's guidance on school transmission & safety protocols and how Ireland's then Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan's, advice was apparently not aligned with this guidance.

https://www.independent.ie/opinion/comment/we-have-committed-to-wrong-course-of-action-on-schools-its-time-for-a-rethink/39684402.html

Excerpts

"The Government’s “living with the virus” – or “flying by the seat of your pants” strategy – has failed. Yet, in the grip of a second wave as the ravages of winter approach, Taoiseach Micheรกl Martin is locked into a phenomenon known as escalation of commitment to a losing course of action (look it up), preventing him from knowing when to concede defeat and change course to avert disaster.

The collapse of the test and trace system last week exposed the Government’s lack of preparedness for the entirely preventable second wave....."

"....Then acting chief medical officer Dr Ronan Glynn endorsed the move, saying: “Children don’t transmit very effectively to other children or adults” – despite the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) stating: “Children shed virus in similar quantities to adults and can infect others in a similar way to adults.”

"Chief medical officer, Dr Tony Holohan has maintained this position (children don't transmit effectively to others)...Last week, the WHO produced What we know about Covid-19 transmission in schools, which was significantly at odds with our CMO's nonchalance. It states children of all ages can be infected and spread the virus to others and community transmission is reflected in the school setting.

"The importance of parental cooperation in reporting cases of Covid -19 in households is also stressed in the WHO document, as well as enhanced protection of students and teachers with underlying health conditions."

"As the ink dried on the WHO document, reports emerged here of staff shortages being plugged by merging classes, making them even bigger and more overcrowded".

"Testing and tracing in schools has been shambolic so claims “there’s nothing to see here” are unsubstantiated. Based on recent DCU data analysis showing an increase of 89pc in test positivity in 5-14 year olds from September 1-28, obtaining rigorous, transparent and accurate data within schools is crucial.

Given that Martin has said the important job of any government is to keep its people safe, now would be a good time to relinquish his commitment to a failing policy of opening schools on a wing and a prayer and committing instead to opening them safely."

2) Reopening of schools akin to sending teachers and pupils into a building guaranteed to catch fire

Days before schools were due to open in August 2020, Education Minister, Norma Foley, finally gives a radio interview, most of which is dominated by "Golfgate". Evidence of school outbreaks in other countries was ignored.

https://www.independent.ie/opinion/reopening-of-schools-akin-to-sending-teachers-and-pupils-into-a-building-guaranteed-to-catch-fire/39473486.html

Excerpts.

"Since producing the roadmap, new research has come to light. Reopening schools without updating plans accordingly is unconscionable. It is now accepted, as reported by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, that children are as infectious as adults. The ECDC also advocates that the same control measures that apply in the community, including two-metre distancing, should also apply to schools.

Last week, less than two weeks after Berlin’s 825 schools reopened, outbreaks have occurred in some 41 schools, affecting all age groups. Multiple school closures ensued. Norma Foley should delay reopening schools to establish what went wrong. When dealing with a deadly disease for which there is no vaccine or cure, the precautionary principle should be triggered to prevent widespread infection and deaths".

"Minister Foley must come up with a Plan B containing the vision lacking in Plan A. It must include remote learning options for medically compromised pupils who can’t physically attend school but to whom the state has a statutory obligation to provide an education.

Remote learning should also be available to pupils living with vulnerable relatives. As a strategy, it has a secondary benefit of reducing class sizes significantly, which would be cheaper than building extra classrooms and recruiting additional staff".

The scientific community is coalescing around the following measures being in place before reopening schools safely: Low community transmission (Ireland’s Covid growth rate is the third-highest in the EU), test-and-trace, ventilation, small classes, two-metre distancing and mandatory masks.

Irish schools clearly don’t meet these tests.

1) Government is making life-and-death call on schools reopening - it has to get it right

The significance of this new study cannot be overstated: https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/covid-19/more-70-us-household-covid-spread-started-child-study-suggests

"In-person school contributed to transmission: More than 70% of transmission in households with adults and children were from paediatric index case...Once US schools re-opened in fall 2020, children contributed more to inferred within-household transmission when they were in school and less during summer and winter breaks".

In a bid to amplify the ongoing threat children face in schools with no SARS-C0V-2 mitigations/protections, I'm re-posting articles I wrote from August 2020 warning of evidence that children DO get infected with SARS2, they DO transmit to others & that schools were/are NOT safe.

Please feel free to use the evidence I've set out in the following 7 articles to demand clean, bio-hazard free air in schools.

Just dropping this incredibly powerful video with Consultant Cardiologist, Dr Rae Duncan here: "We are knowingly allowing our children to go into school buildings & breathe in a CDC level 3 biohazard that's airborne" https://www.youtube.com/clip/UgkxVWm9ME95RsOPqSQb0kC9UPyfgn3xUISi

I wrote this in August 2020, incredulous that schools were about to open with no clear guidance & Education Minister, Norma Foley, nowhere to be found.

https://www.independent.ie/opinion/comment/government-is-making-life-and-death-call-on-schools-reopening-it-has-to-get-it-right/39451430.html

Excerpts:

"Listening to Leo Varadkar on RTร‰, "guaranteeing" outbreaks of coronavirus in schools when they open, reminded me of the mayor in Jaws...."

"Acting chief medical officer Dr Ronan Glynn said "children don't transmit very effectively to others". He should know that the ECDC report published last week states: "When symptomatic, children shed virus in similar quantities to adults and can infect others in a similar way to adults."

"In fact, there are numerous documented studies outlining the scale of risk associated with reopening schools.

In Israel, where class sizes are big (like Ireland), the virus spread to students' homes, other schools and neighbourhoods, ultimately infecting hundreds of students, teachers and relatives. Across the country, thousands of students and teachers were quarantined.

Israel's deputy director of public health services, Dr Udi Kliner, said that "schools, not restaurants or gyms, turned out to be the country's worst mega-infectors".

A large new study from South Korea shows that children between the ages of 10 and 19 can spread the virus at least as well as adults do.

Cases among children in Germany have increased by 50pc since they reopened schools, and researchers in Berlin tested more than 3,700 coronavirus patients and found that children carried the same viral load as adults".

"Our Government seems unaware of these facts given the 'roadmap' for school reopening does little to mitigate them.

Aerosol transmission, for example, is not acknowledged. This raises questions about proper ventilation, face masks, and the efficacy of the roadmap's 'pods' - none of which are adequately addressed.

Another gaping omission from the roadmap is how to accommodate the many children who have underlying health conditions or whose family members are high risk. What virtual/remote alternatives will be provided for those children who cannot attend school but remain entitled to an education?"

Community transmission is another key risk factor. The safe opening of schools was always contingent on levels being low.....With an R-rate now of almost 2, how can it possibly be deemed safe to reopen schools?

It's crucial that schools reopen but it has to be done safely.".

New study: "Over 70% of household COVID19 spread started with a child & In-person schools "also resulted in substantial spread". Wake up adults: Protect our kids & demand safe schools

Epidemiologist, health economist & co-founder of the World Health Network, Eric Feigl-Ding, called the pandemic before the WHO. He was one of the first entries in my SARS-CoV-2 pandemic "trusted sources database".

His explainer below nails the extent to which parents have been misled & the ongoing harm to children, families & society as a result. It's time for the adults in the room to wake up, speak up & stand up for our children's right to breathe clean,SARS-C0V-2 biohazard free air in schools๐Ÿ’ช

2) study authors: "Once US schools reopened in fall 2020, children contributed more to inferred within-household transmission when they were in school, and less during summer and winter breaks, a pattern consistent for 2 consecutive school years."

Don’t shoot the messenger.

3) "Also, when the COVID-19 incidence is low, overall use of nonpharmaceutical interventions might decrease (READ: less use of masks in schools), leading to increased incidence of non–SARS-CoV-2 pathogens which may be more common in children."
5) if someone misled you that kids are “practically immune” or “kids don’t transmit”… you should be angry right now that they endangered your family.
6) and yes kids are at risk too. Kids may not die with same rate as adults (kids shouldn’t die period!!!), but kids have suffered substantial COVID hospitalization and mortality too.
